We all think of lasers as something dangerous, and with good reason.  Anybody who's ever watched a James Bond movie knows that lasers cut through steel like butter, and villains like to attach them to the heads of sharks to taunt and potentially destroy super-spy protagonists.

But lasers aren't as dangerous as we've been led to believe.  In fact, they don't even have to be annoying, like the little one teenagers?

Pandora, the personalized internet radio service that's taking both the automotive world and actual world by storm, was recently given BMW's Supplier Innovation Award in the New Business Model category, and it shouldn't be any secret as to why.  Officially, the accolade is handed out to a nominee that has proven to be an "outstanding innovation in vehicle technology," but unofficially, it won because it's pretty much the coolest thing to?

Many of us make the assumption that product placement in TV and film only benefits the movie studios and the advertisers, but in the case of BMW's current partnership with the upcoming blockbuster "Mission Impossible 4: Ghost Protocol," the fans and BMW customers get their opportunities to benefit from the partnership as well.

It's time for us all to admit that the way we view engines is going to have to change.  In the past, huge engine capacity and multiple cylinders were what defined a good, strong engine, but with increasingly stringent environmental standards for fuel efficiency, the reality is that a lot of those old super-engines are going to have to hit the wayside for smaller mechanics with better MPG's.
