There are a heck of a lot of apps out there for the iPhone and iPad, but honestly, how many of them really do something useful?  Yes, we love the music provided by Pandora and the hours of mindless fun provided by Angry Birds, but are those really practical in improving the quality of our everyday lives?

Of course, there are some apps out there that do improve the quality of everyday life, and the newest of those is the My BMW Remote app, which was made available for download at the Apple Store just this week.

As long as the owner of a BMW 5 Series, 3 Series, 1 Series, or 6 Series manufactured after March of 2008 has the appropriate app and BMW Assist with ConnectedDrive, a whole new world of possibilities has now officially opened up.

These include things like Remote Door Lock & Unlock and Remote Headlights, which helps someone wandering aimlessly around a parking lot trying to find their car buried somewhere in the throng of other automobiles.  Even more specific is the Vehicle Position option, which allows someone within a half mile of their vehicle to use GPS maps to locate their BMW.  Toss in Remote Door Lock & Unlock, which activates with a mere touch of a button on your phone, and the Google Local Search, and you've got yourself one fine little app.
