There are some that say the BMW 3 Series is the best car ever created, and like all other Tampa BMW dealers, we have absolutely zero reason to argue with that. Every detail of the car has so much thought put into it that every time we redesign the model, people scrutinize every square inch of the thing to decide if the changes were good ones.
But you know what never changes? The badge on the hood and on the rear that features our BMW logo. That logo is almost 100 years old and has gone through only minor tweaks during that time. For the most part though, it's exactly the same logo it's always been, and the history of its design is actually a pretty interesting one.
The sky blue and white check embedded in that little black circle does actually mean something, believe it or not. Since BMW got its start making airplanes during World War I, there's a strong belief that the pattern is meant to depict a white propeller spinning on a field of blue sky. Another theory, which doesn't necessarily have to work independently of the first one, is that the sky blue and white color scheme is meant to represent the colors of the Bavarian flag. Since that's what the "B" in "BMW" stands for, we'd say there's a pretty good shot that has something to do with it, too.
There's a great history in our organization, and the logo is just a small part of it. Still, it's nice to know what's on the badge of your car, right?
