BMW Has Been Doing EVs for 40 Years!

We like to think of all-electric vehicles as this new thing that really only took hold over the course of the last couple of years, but ask any real automotive historian and they'll tell you that EVs have been a thing for a whole lot longer than that.  In fact, BMW has been in the business of putting together all-electric cars for over forty years now, which means our ActiveE, i3, and i8 models…

Smart Steering Wheel May Be Coolest Ever

It's not a new idea to put cool stuff on the steering wheel, because it's been years and years since we first saw steering-wheel mounted audio controls and cruise control and the like.  However, BMW has taken the idea of putting cool stuff on the steering wheel to an entirely new level with its new BMW M Performance Steering Wheel.  It seriously makes driving your car feel like a video game, even if…

2013 BMW X1 Working to "Restore the Outdoors"

When our engineers got rolling on the brand new 2013 BMW X1, the task at hand was to develop a functional small crossover that would prove to be the greenest BMW X vehicle yet.  And while that is exactly what they've done-the X1 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged sDrive28i that manages a respectable 24/34 mpg-BMW wants to be even greener with this vehicle than just what the mechanics show.  To do that, our…

    ConnectedDrive Gets Some Awesome Upgrades

If you want to know the biggest difference between buying a new car in today's world (like, say, a 2012 BMW 1 Series) versus buying a new car in 1992, we'd probably go with "technology."

Back in 1992, it was a big deal to buy a car with power windows and cup holders.  Now, if there aren't DVD players in the back, real-time traffic updates with touchscreen GPS, and Bluetooth connectivity to…

BMW ActiveHybrid 7 To Get Engine Change

There's a reason that our BMW ActiveHybrid 7 is one of the better performance hybrids in the entire auto industry, and that reason has everything to do with the fact that it's not particularly fuel efficient.  We know, that sounds like an odd thing to say about a hybrid, but the ActiveHybrid 7 was engineered with performance in mind instead of fuel economy.  Rather than use the hybrid components to make the car…

A Look at the BMW Art Cars

As far as traditions go, BMW's Art Car is one of the cooler ones in the auto world.  Every handful of years for almost four decades, BMW has commissioned a renowned artist to take one of their vehicles and turn it into something artistic.  At first the focus was just on BMW vehicles that appeared in races, but over time that has changed so that now pretty much any of the German automakers' models?

    BMW Awards Pandora for Innovation

Pandora, the personalized internet radio service that's taking both the automotive world and actual world by storm, was recently given BMW's Supplier Innovation Award in the New Business Model category, and it shouldn't be any secret as to why.  Officially, the accolade is handed out to a nominee that has proven to be an "outstanding innovation in vehicle technology," but unofficially, it won because it's pretty much the coolest thing to?

BMW Dealers Praise More Fuel-Efficient Z4

Times change.  It's just the reality of the world, and unfortunately, they don't always change the way we want them to.  I remember once in high school there was a candy machine that had a glitch where it if you hit the right sequence of numbers, it would spew out M&Ms and Skittles for eternity, or until the candy ran out, whichever was first.  For a day, my friends and I ate?

BMW To Integrate Lasers Into Headlight Technology

When it comes to headlights on a car, the big trend right now is LED's.  They use less energy, they burn brighter with a more natural color, and (most importantly to some) they actually look way cooler cruising on the highway at nighttime.

But now, a new headlight trend seems headed for Tampa BMW lots, something that could be even cooler and more technologically impressive than LED's and the revolution they've inspired?

BMW Dealers Looking to Add More Electric Vehicles

When hybrid cars first started becoming popular, a lot of automakers kind of shrugged the whole thing off as a fad.  Sure, gas prices were more astronomical than actual astronomy and have only gotten worse, but because early hybrids were so much less powerful than their all-gas counterparts, some companies rightfully believed that they wouldn't last.

So if hybrids wouldn't last, certainly all-electric vehicles were an even bigger joke, right?  I mean, right?
