We've talked a lot here about the BMW i3 sedan and the i8, mostly because as BMW's first electric vehicles they are absolutely cars that could transform our brand. But as we find ourselves only a few months away from those two models' debuts, we're also finding that BMW engineers are not wasting any time sitting around content with these upcoming releases. They're already working on an even more advanced EV: the lovely and talented i3 Concept Coupe, which debuted last month at the L.A. Auto Show.
And what makes this smooth-looking little two-door EV more advanced than its too-be-released predecessor? Most notably, it's all the adaptive technology inside the vehicle that allows drivers to hypermile safely and get the most of the car's lithium-ion battery.
On average, the battery has a range of about 100 miles on a single charge, but there is a super-efficient driving mode in which software chooses more efficient navigation routes and shuts down energy-sucking functions like air conditioning to make the sure the car's range stretches out as much as possible.
Even without the extra push, 100 miles on a single charge is pretty impressive, and that combined with the very forward-looking exterior of the vehicle gives the car a very futuristic feel that we think customers are really going to dig. The release of the i3 Concept Coupe at your local BMW dealership isn't imminent, but the release of the i3 and the i8 is, and we're looking forward to the giant step forward we're about to take with electric vehicles. We're also looking forward to how much more amazing these cars are going to get over time.
