For the overwhelming majority of the car-buying public, the list of must-haves in a new automobile is pretty extensive. Fuel efficiency, safety, technology, power, and looks all come into play-and understandably so-but there is a small group of niche buyers looking for all of those things and one extra criterion: collectability.
Just like baseball cards and stamps and comic books, cars can be collectibles, but it's hard to locate (and, more often than not, afford) the kinds of vehicles that prove to be super-valuable.
That's why, for collectors, it's important to get a leg-up on what current vehicles might end up classics somewhere down the road. What currently-available vehicle at Lakeland car dealerships could prove to be valuable several years from now? Well, Motor Trend magazine seems to think that the BMW M3 will be one of them.
Why the M3? The E90-Series M3 is sort of the last of its kind-a naturally-aspirated engine. That's important because the old high-revving 414-horsepower V8 is going to be replaced in future models with a turbocharged engine. That means the current M motor could very well be the last naturally-aspirated one ever built, and that, ladies and gentlemen, is what makes it so collectible.
Most consumers don't look at automobiles like that, though; they just want to make sure they get something with ample airbags, great MPGs, and a jack for their iPod so they can listen to The Black Keys while they drive. Of course, the M3 can do all that plus serve as a collectible, giving you all the more reason to snatch one up now.
