Auto Shows are always great fodder for news and updates on everybody's favorite BMW cars, and Florida drivers like yourselves are likely to be very pleased to hear about the new BMW 4 Series Coupe concept that recently made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

If you're looking at that previous sentence and asking yourself, "Wait, what?  4 Series?" we totally understand.  It looks like we're introducing a whole new group of vehicles with that unfamiliar number, but in reality the 4 Series is really just going to be the two-door version of the popular 3 Series, with a few minor adjustments that probably would've taken place had it kept the old number, anyway.

The changes are relatively minor, but Fields BMW Lakeland customers will still likely be excited to know that it will be 1.7 inches wider than the 3 Series sedan, and 0.5 inches shorter.  Plus, it has a 2.0-inch longer wheelbase and much more aggressive styling, particularly in the front end.  The thing looks great, and all those positive reviews the 3 Series has gotten over the years can apply to this one, too, because the guts probably are going to be right on par with the 328i and 335i.

In general, we're going to be moving to a system in which odd-numbered Series vehicles represent sedans, and even-numbered Series vehicles represent coupes.  That's why this is the 4 Series, and the 1 Series will have a 2 Series counterpart.  It's not a bad system, even though it's different from what we're familiar with, but we don't care what you call a car that looks and drives this well.  A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.
