At our Lakeland BMW dealership, the safety and security of our customers is our highest concern. We take every opportunity available to celebrate the achievements that bring the brand closer to total occupant safety.
Recently, the brand recognized U.S. accident researcher Professor Kennerly Digges with the BMW Vehicle Safety Lifetime Achievement Award in response to his exceptional contribution to technologies designed to improve vehicle occupant protection. Working out of George Washington University in Ashburn, Va., Professor Digges remains one of the industry's leaders in the field of vehicle safety. Digges's work has helped bring to life crash test processes now implemented throughout the world in addition to the development of state-of-the-art vehicle safety systems.
The BMW Vehicle Safety Lifetime Achievement Award was presented at the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) annual conference at BMW Welt in Munich by Professor Klaus Kompass, Vice President of Vehicle Safety at the BMW Group.
Digges's career began at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, where he incorporated accident research into statutory regulations of active and passive in-vehicle safety technology. He also oversaw the introduction of the New Car Assessment Programme, which is utilized in many countries as the standard for measuring vehicle safety. Digges's work was also crucial in the development of the Intelligent Emergency Call system that is now standard on many BMW vehicles, and he even developed the algorithm behind the system's ability to determine collision severity as well as the number of occupants who may be injured as a result.
Join our BMW staff in celebrating the outstanding work that Digges has contributed to BMW vehicle safety measures, and be sure to check back in with this blog to see the new safety advancements and technology offerings on current and upcoming BMW models.
