One of our employees here at Fields BMW of Lakeland tells this story about being on vacation in Wisconsin, and while driving the rental car along the interstate at dusk in the northern part of the state, this person had to slam on the brakes to avoid crashing into a gigantic black bear.
Yes, a bear. Luckily, even though it was about 80% of the way to complete and utter darkness, a mammoth bear in the middle of the road is enough of a sketchy black blob to catch someone's attention. Not all evening creatures are quite so considerate.
That's where BMW's new night vision feature can prove handy. Our engineers decided that, since the 2012 7 Series was already undergoing a massive overhaul, it might be nice to slap on this little bit of technology as a bonus feature. Using our new Dynamic Light Spot, which illuminates pedestrians and critters and displays them on the LCD screen in the vehicle, this technology is actually really great stuff, and owners of BMW cars in Florida can easily add it to their new 7 Series purchase, whenever that may be.
Nobody wants to hit a bear. Or a deer. Or even a raccoon or skunk or squirrel, because all of those animals can do serious damage to a vehicle. And no one ever wants to hit a pedestrian, which is what this technology was really intended to prevent. We're guessing it'll do a great job at that. But it will also protect us from slamming into other creatures of the forest, too.
