2014 BMW i3 world premiere reveals one-of-a-kind city vehicle

At Fields BMW Lakeland, we think it's always a pretty exciting time to represent the BMW brand. No matter the season or the sales forecast, the car shopper or the models on the showroom floor, we are always happy and proud to welcome Lakeland drivers to the BMW family.

But just last week, we welcomed something else to the family with open arms. July 29 marked the world premiere of the thrilling new BMW i3 production model, which launched simultaneously in London, Beijing and New York City.

·         An appearance by special guest, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, in New York

·         A close look at the first-ever purpose-built electric vehicle constructed primarily from carbon fiber, which was displayed through an advanced technology system illuminated by an LED backdrop

·         Discussion of the future of mobility as well as the benefits of the BMW i3 construction led by the BMW executive team

But beyond the dazzling display of the global event, the BMW i3 shone in its own right, demonstrating its outstanding, future-focused driving dynamics and construction, including:

·         A lightweight, compact body designed to simplify city driving

·          "Coach"-style doors to enable quick and painless entry and exit for rear-seat passengers

·         A body built from sustainable materials, featuring a dashboard wood trim developed from responsibly forested eucalyptus

·         Industry-leading carbon fiber technology capabilities allowing for sustainable driving practices such as reduced emissions and fuel consumption

·         A removed transmission tunnel as well as a low console to enable a Slide Through Experience, meaning that drivers and passengers can exit from either side of the vehicle
