As we welcome spring here in Lakeland, car dealerships throughout the country have their eyes set a few thousand miles up the coast. That's because spring is also the time of year that we celebrate the New York International Auto Show, and boy does BMW have plenty to look forward to this year.
That's because BMW will be debuting new models at the auto show, which got rolling yesterday. The automaker has stayed true to its goal of sustainable mobility with the North American debuts of the Concept Active Tourer and 3 Series Gran Turismo as well as the U.S. debut of the 328d.
With the Concept Active Tourer, BMW fans saw a new take on the plug-in hybrid concept, which meshes style and comfort with utility and performance under a full-scale focus on innovation. That means everything about this vehicle, from its looks to its actions, is a glimpse into the future of BMW models and driving in general. Consider its "Cool Shade" composite glass roof with "Suspended Particle Device" technology that shifts the look of the roof from dark to clear as day.
In the Gran Turismo, fans and attendees found a reliable model with an exciting new twist. After topping the Car and Driver 10 Best list for 22 years in a row, this model got a change-up with more space among the rear seats and cargo areas on top of the option between an award-winning TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder or inline six-cylinder engine.
With the force of a TwinPower Turbo 4 cylinder engine that achieves 180 horsepower and 280 pound-foot of torque, the 328d has the amazing capability to zoom from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 7.2 seconds. That means that this vehicle combines the excellent performance of a BMW 3 series model with the efficiency of a diesel engine.
