At Fields BMW Lakeland, driving is always on our minds. Most of the time we're thinking about driving as it relates to the BMW vehicles we love and house, but when the time comes for the BMW Championship, we spend much of our time thinking about the driving that's done on the golf course.
And with PGA pros like Rory McIlroy and Gary Woodland on the course, how could we think of anything else? These competitors helped the brand kick off the 2013 BMW Championship Sept. 10 in a BMW i3 driving challenge at a specially designed Six Flags Great America course. The golfers became the first drivers in the world to get behind the wheel of the world's first electric vehicle constructed mainly of carbon fiber since its world premiere in July and came within two seconds of surpassing the track's record!
The 2013 BMW Championship continued Sept. 12-15 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Ill., where McIlory and Woodland joined the top 70 players of the PGA TOUR - including Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson, Luke Donald and Tiger Woods - to compete for a FedExCup victory. Players who scored a hole-in-one were in the running to claim a number of rewards:
· BMW to grant a four-year Evans Scholarship at a $100,000 value in the name of the first participant to make a hole-in-one on any of the tournament's holes
· A new BMW i3 for the first player to score a hole-in-one on the 17th hole
· A new BMW M6 Gran Coupe for the first player to hit a hole-in-one on the 11th hole
The competition also launched with a $10,000 BMW donation to the Evans Scholars Foundation made in honor of McIlroy and Woodland. All event proceeds will benefit the foundation, for which the BMW Championship has raised more than $14 million in six years.
This BMW dealership is proud to represent a brand dedicated to supporting organizations that enable students to advance their education. BMW of North America, LLC, also conducts a summer internship program for the Evans Scholars Foundation to provide hands-on work experience and a head-start at career development.
