The driving landscape has changed drastically in even the last 10 years, and BMW has had the pleasure of watching that landscape improve day after day. Today's drivers are forward-thinking, and for that reason, we believe they deserve not only forward-thinking vehicles, like the new BMW models that are available to drivers today, but a forward-thinking driving environment as well.
Even though we are far from the area, our Lakeland BMW dealer is proud to see that street parking will now be available in San Francisco for participants in the premium car-sharing program DriveNow. The BMW subsidiary has shared its plans to expand street parking service to specific areas of the Mission District and will go on to add 80 electric BMW ActiveE vehicles to its current fleet. The addition would account for a total of 150 ActiveE vehicles in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Streets that have been approved for parking will be marked in a "green zone" (a DriveNow drop-off zone) on the vehicle's in-car screen. Participants may pick up and return vehicles at any designated station or parking spot. DriveNow vehicles and their current charging status are included on an interactive map available to all participating drivers.
But DriveNow members don't have to wait to get involved. All users are invited to name the 80 models through a two-week Facebook and Twitter challenge open May 9-23. Challenge submissions must:
· Include the letters "A" and "E" (for "ActiveE") or
· Include the letters "E" and "V" (for "electric vehicle") or
· Include the letters "B," "E" and "V" (for "battery electric vehicle")
Letters may be utilized consecutively or arranged as the beginning letters of first and last names. Selected names will appear on the car sticker, the DriveNow website and within the DriveNow app.
