Steps for Jumping a Car
There are many reasons why your car may need to be jumped. Luckily, getting your vehicle running again is easier than it seems. Here’s how you can easily jump start your BMW car if you experience a dead battery:
- Park the second vehicle close enough to your car so the cables can reach without the cars touching.
- Connect the positive cable first to the dead battery and then to the working battery.
- Connect the negative cable on the dead battery.
- Ground the negative cable on the second vehicle by connecting it to another metal surface that is not touching the battery.
- Start the second vehicle.
- After a few minutes, try to start the car with the weak battery.
How your car responds to the jump start may provide some insight into why the battery stopped working in the first place. If it doesn’t start, try your connections again and give it a second go. If that doesn’t work, you may be looking at a damaged battery or a starter problem.
If your vehicle does turn over, be sure to let your battery run for 20 to 30 minutes before driving your car.
